Situation
Memorial Care Los Altos is a Family, Internal and Pediatric Doctors office specializing in rheumatology and cardiology. In addition, this new facility serves as an urgent care center open 365 days a year for the local community. In renovating its new space, Memorial Care Medical Group needed to bring together the most advanced healing technology in community healthcare along with state-of-the-art medical and surgical products in order to provide excellent clinical outcomes. The second floor wood subfloor was in poor condition. Finished flooring to be installed was a 12”x24” Bio-based resilient tile and sheet vinyl.

Solution
ARDEX Sales Professional Jeff Mason met with Dave Sprenger of Universal Metro and suggested an ARDEX MC™ Moisture Control System to allow for long term uninterrupted care. Universal Metro installed ARDEX K 15® Premium Self-Leveling Underlayment and ARDEX MC™ RAPID One-Coat Moisture Control System for Concrete to Receive ARDEX Underlayments on the first floor.
Universal Metro installed the ARDEX MC™ RAPID One-Coat Moisture Control System followed ARDEX K 15®. Universal Metro Lead Estimator Dave Sprenger stated “This was a fast track project and the ARDEX products were instrumental in keeping everything on schedule. We were able to repair cracks using ARDEX ArdiFix™, install ARDEX MC RAPID and pump ARDEX K 15 in one weekend.”
ARDEX GS-4™ Self-Leveling Repair Underlayment for Distressed Gypsum and Wood Subfloors was used on the second floor to rectify the unacceptable wood subfloor.
“ARDEX systems and products used were critical in helping us complete Memorial Care Los Altos,” Sprenger continued. “We were able to pump the whole second floor in one day. As usual, ARDEX GS-4 had excellent flow and the finished surface came out great. The second floor went from being an old beat up wood floor to looking like a brand new concrete slab. An additional advantage of using ARDEX GS-4 was the fast curing time. For this fast-track project, contactors were able to keep the schedule on track and frame all the walls on top of the ARDEX GS-4 just days later.”
Universal Metro finished the installation with bio-based tile, resilient tile, stone and carpet. Memorial Care Los Altos won a 2013 Silver Starnet Flooring Design Award for Environmental Achievement.
